our latest comes from looong time friend Singing Statues aka Jackhigh/Rewolf/Bnjmin 141. Ben (as I like to refer to him) makes beats and sings and plays the guitar, all in lovely contradictory fashions. let me take that back actually; Ben Thomas may make different styles of music under different names, but in the context of his warped harmonic universe, it all makes perfect sense. under the Singing Statues moniker, Ben recently signed a recording contract ($$$) with Ghostly International, where he will no doubt make the impact his music merits. here’s a (long overdue) mix from a good friend, enjoy.
also, Vibes’ bredren Teebs will be releasing an album with Ben (as Jackhigh) on Svetlana Industries. a song from that record is featured here.

another reason why I love doing this, the lovely Elan Tamara (www.myspace.com/elantamara), the same Elan Tamara who I raved about on the Vibes’ myspace page a few weeks ago, spontaneously sent me a half-hour mixtape for your listening pleasure. she’s a very talented pianist/singer/songwriter who just released her first EP ((Gold Fishes)) to immense acclaim. the young lady’s mix (her first) features everything from Prince to Fela to Hudson Mohawke. it’s a nice laid back thing, very accessible and appropriate for pretty much whenever. enjoy, and pick up her EP ((Gold Fishes)) if you know what’s good for you.

it’s a takeover!! episode 57 comes to us courtesy of Raggy, South London soul architect and host of Off Limits Radio (www.OffLimitsRadio.com). this gentleman consistently puts out what I consider to be one of the best soul shows on the globe, mixing eclectic new records with vinyl gems from his ’sack full of dreams’. I highly suggest that you go to his site, have a look around, and listen to a few shows, but not before you check out the lovely mix he did especially for Vibes and stuff. it’s all vinyl, all 7′ singles, and is crazy front to back. props from a fellow music lover, thanks Rags. enjoy.

this month’s guest shot comes from our pal AD Bourke, a beatmaker/crate digger from Rome. instead of sending me a mix of all his own shit (which frankly would have been dope), he hit me with an amazing crate selection; half an hour of (mostly) Italian electronic/funk/experimental/disco that completely caught me off guard. this is incredible music, don’t sleep.
